Allegra Sunwei
Artist & Illustrator
Allegra Sunwei was born in Harbin, China, and is currently based in Rome.
She is an artist and illustrator working across picture books, printmaking, and contemporary narrative practices.
She trained in printmaking at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna and further developed her studies in illustration in Hamburg, Germany.
Her work investigates the transformation of identity, the relationship between trauma and creativity, and art as a process of healing and awareness. Her images explore emotions that are often restrained or hidden within the subconscious, translating them into layered and symbolic visual forms.
Through a dialogue between Eastern and Western cultures, she develops a visual language that reflects fragility, growth, and resilience within the human experience. Painting and printmaking become tools of reflection and release — a space where the invisible can take shape.
Alongside her artistic research, she develops commissioned projects related to portraiture and personal narrative.
